The fourth Roche Diagnostics International (RDI) Volunteering Week took place in Rotkreuz in May. This special initiative enabled Roche employees to lend a hand to charitable organisations in the region during their working hours. The commitment demonstrates Roche's social responsibility and offers employees the opportunity to gain new experiences and utilise their skills in a different context. Because at Roche, social commitment is important.
Why volunteering is so important
Non-profit organisations rely on the support of volunteers. It is often the only way they can maintain their operations and realise important projects. However, the best way to find out why volunteering is so important to them is to hear directly from the organisations themselves and from our RDI colleagues about what motivated them to get involved. Let them inspire you.
A wide variety of projects in the region
This year's Volunteering Week brought together over a hundred committed Roche employees from Rotkreuz who took part in a wide range of projects: some of them realised creative art projects at the Living Museum Zurich, spruced up the ZuKi adventure playground in Cham and carried out forestry work in Buchenegg and Affoltern am Albis. They also worked on the organic farm Kulturhof Hinter Musegg in Lucerne, supported the Incontro food distribution centre on Langstrasse in Zurich, helped Agrofutura combat invasive plant species in the nature reserve in Rotkreuz or helped with a variety of tasks at ConSol, a business in Baar that offers work prospects for people with mental and physical disabilities.
This year's Volunteering Week was once again a great success and showed just how important social engagement and teamwork are. Philanthropy, our commitment to society and the communities in which we operate - beyond our primary business and research activities - is of great importance to us. As part of our volunteering programme, we take our social responsibility seriously and make a joint contribution to the region. We are already looking forward to next year and the many great stories that will emerge from this initiative.
